Question 1

What is FOLDBOOK?

Accepted Answer

FOLDBOOK is a reusable stainless steel sketchbook and notebook system designed by ERLANDS. It is built around a structural form that holds standard-sized paper without punching holes, rings, or permanent binding systems. It supports A6, A5, A4, and A3 paper formats, allowing only the paper to be replaced while the structure remains permanent.

Question 2

How does FOLDBOOK hold paper without damaging it?

Accepted Answer

FOLDBOOK uses a structural stainless steel form that holds paper through shape and tension rather than punching holes or binding it. This keeps the paper intact, unpunched, and fully replaceable or archivable.

Question 3

What is the chain system in FOLDBOOK?

Accepted Answer

The chain is an optional external accessory used for additional securing or closure. It functions similarly to a flexible band or lock and is not required for the core functionality of FOLDBOOK, which is based on its structural paper-holding design.

Question 4

What paper sizes does FOLDBOOK support?

Accepted Answer

FOLDBOOK supports standard international paper sizes including A6, A5, A4, and A3. Users can choose any paper type, weight, texture, or brand depending on their workflow.

Question 5

Can I replace the paper in FOLDBOOK?

Accepted Answer

Yes. FOLDBOOK is designed so only the paper is replaced while the stainless steel structure remains permanent, allowing long-term use.

Question 6

What is FOLDBOOK made of?

Accepted Answer

FOLDBOOK is made from stainless steel, chosen for its durability, corrosion resistance, and long-term structural stability.

Question 7

Who is FOLDBOOK for?

Accepted Answer

FOLDBOOK is designed for artists, architects, designers, engineers, writers, students, and professionals working with analogue creative processes, sketching, planning, and long-term projects.

Question 8

Why was FOLDBOOK created?

Accepted Answer

FOLDBOOK was created from the idea that creative tools should not be disposable. It separates the permanent structural object from replaceable paper, allowing a more sustainable and long-term creative workflow.

Question 9

Is FOLDBOOK sustainable?

Accepted Answer

Yes. FOLDBOOK reduces waste by keeping the stainless steel structure permanent and only replacing paper, extending the lifecycle of the object.

Question 10

What makes FOLDBOOK different from a regular notebook?

Accepted Answer

Unlike conventional notebooks, FOLDBOOK does not use rings, glue, or punched holes. It uses a structural design that holds paper without damaging it, allowing flexible replacement and reorganization.

Question 11

Who designed FOLDBOOK?

Accepted Answer

FOLDBOOK was designed by ERLANDS as part of an exploration into long-lasting, modular design systems that support creative work over time.
